Heaven Sent

I love when I get to visit my family in California because that means I get to do spontaneous photo sessions with my sisters. I don’t know if you believe in God, but I do, I also believe in His providence and that He allows things to happen for a reason. On this particular day my sisters and I had the inkling to have our spontaneous photo session in downtown Pittsburg. Now if you haven’t been to Pittsburg California let me describe it for you. It’s really not the kind of place four young ladies should be alone unaccompanied. When we got downtown with in the first ten minutes of being there, there where two people standing across the street from us, watching us. I quickly realized the situation was serious when they started to follow us. We walked down the street to a coffee shop. There, I called my husband. I looked out the coffee shop window to see the two strangers walking back to our car and sitting by it. With in minutes my husband, and his mom were there to help escort us until we finished our session. While walking back down towards our car the two strangers where still sitting by our car, when they saw us less than half a block away they got up and started walking towards us. We were getting ready to pass a bookstore when we dodged in the door. There we met a wonderful man who ran a non-profit book store. After the coast was clear, my husband and his mom met us inside the store. After talking to the owner of the store for a while a boy and his mom walked in. He was a simple boy, maybe in his late teens. His mom had just told him to pick a book when me and my sisters walked out to finish our session. My husband stayed behind. After about fifteen minutes he walked out with the boy and his mom, the mom said something to Craig as she walked by. What my husband proceeded to tell me next made me feel to thankful and I’ll tell you why. What we didn't know was that, that boy had lost his dad a month ago, his dad use to walk him daily to the book store. The book he picked out, his mother said they couldn’t afford, so my husband fronted the bill. To that boy that book was the whole word, to that mom, the book was a miracle. She hasn’t told her son that his Dad had past away, she didn’t know how, she was defeated and that simple act of kindness was heaven sent.

Now you may ask, why did I feel so thankful? Well I was thankful for the town strangers that followed us, they had made us worry enough for me to call my husband, they can stuck around so that my husband had to escort us, they had approached us so that we would have to seek safety in the walls of a little book store where God had brought my husband and a boy who need a little kindness shown together. That’s how God works, and that’s how his goodness is shown.
